Dahlia 'Mango Madness'

Sure to be one the biggest flower in the garden, the blooms of Dahlia 'Mango Madness' regularly reach an astonishing 25cm across. This large, dinnerplate variety produces enormous, shaggy flowers in a glamorous mix of blushing apricot and burnt orange with a smoky grey reverse. It truly must be seen to be believed. Dahlia 'Mango Madness' has garnered awards in its home country of the US and has only recently been introduced to the UK. Go on… we dare you!  

While bred to have strong, sturdy stems to support the weight of their flowers, dinnerplate dahlias such as Dahlia 'Mango Madness' still benefit from a little additional help. Try inserting a network of cut hazel or birch branches around the plant, or alternatively wire link-stakes. Giving them as sunny a spot as possible will also help to prevent flopping, as stems tend to grow weaker and spindlier in partial shade.
